Over the Rainbow (2001)
approximately 190-square-feet of mosaic and handmade clay tile forming 12 murals beside and over school entrances - Stockton School, Chicago

Shown is a detail of one of the murals produced in collaboration with artist Ginny Sykes, students and staff. Supporters of the three-year project were the Illinois Arts Council, Beacon Street Gallery, Chicago Public Art Group and the Japanese Chamber of Commerce.

River of Life (1999)
four clay tile murals totalling 130-square feet - Anderson Book Store, Naperville, Illinois

Shown is the first of four clay tile "quilts" produced with art teacher Grace Freylach-Grubb and students at Naperville Central High School and the village's six junior high schools. Stacy Slack, junior high school teacher, organized this project to be one of many works of public art included in Naperville's Century Walk. It was funded mainly by the Jaycees.

Courtyard Puzzle Wall (1997) 120 square foot v-shaped clay tile mural - York Community High.School, Elmhurst, Illinois

Detail shows individuals entering two doorways, one leading to personal development, the other to community life. The collaborative project with teacher John Nester and high school students and was funded by the Illinois Arts Council and the local school district.

To Our Brothers and Sisters Who Died Too Soon (1996)
112-square-foot clay tile mural
Beth-Anne Life Center Courtyard, Chicago

This mural features positive neighborhood scenes that the ten participating teenagers wanted their younger brothers and sisters to see. At the same time it memorialized family and friends who were killed in gang violence. Names of the deceased border the mural. Bethel New Life, Chicago Public Art Group and Gallery 37 supported this project.

El Camino, The Path (2003)
34-square-foot clay tile mural - Los Vecinos SRO, Chicago

As residents enter Los Vecinos, they view El Camino, The Path, which continues for 22 feet into their lobby.

Ceramic artist Karen Patinkin and I worked with eleven neighborhood youth to create two murals for the lobby of Los Vecinos, a remodeled hotel which now provides single room occupancy housing for adults at risk of being homeless. Design themes for the murals were generated in a workshop with all the project’s partners: Archi-Treasures, Association House Youth, Bickerdike Youth Council, Casa Youth, Century Place Development Corporation, Humboldt Construction Company and Landon Bone Baker Architects Ltd.

Situated above the lobby fireplace, El Nindo
