Public Work:
Underwater View (2004)

1' x 33' porcelain tile mural
Margate Playground
4921 N. Marine Drive, Chicago

Because of the park’s proximity to Lake Michigan and the aquatic theme of the overall playground, the mural is a collage of underwater views. Though interesting and beautiful, the underwater world is not usually seen. Assistant Sonata Kazimieraitiene and I led workshops for children, youth, and adults of the community to make tiles to incorporate into the retaining wall mural, as well as into the circular bench mosaic by Ginny Sykes. We were among four Chicago Public Art Group artists to create work for the park. The playground was an outgrowth of collaboration between artists, parents, city ward, architects, CPAG and the Chicago Park District.
