These works begin
in a particular moment, such as when I encounter
a particular dream, poem, war news, or the death
of a friend. In the heightened awareness that follows,
I see life from a different perspective. The sculptures
mark these moments and remind me of the deep realities
to which I want to remain connected. Their form is
inspired by old stone markers I’ve seen, sometimes
at intersections, in England and France.
Photographs taken
outdoors are in a Portage Park garden in Chicago.
In the Marker series, I have begun to use a sculpture
stoneware body, so the works can be safely placed
either indoors or outdoors. |
